Portfield Farm Nursery is based in Outwood and we strongly believe that every child should be able to choose how they play and learn. It has been shown repeatedly that children learn best when they play and interact. The best way, we believe, to encourage this key early years development is to allow children to play the way they want. Though we must admit, sometimes that does mean they get muddy!
This means that the children form key social bonds, special memories, and enjoy their childhoods to the max.
We are a small family business who enjoy helping children aged 6 months – 4 years 11 months to live their best childhood. We are a nursery based in the small village of Outwood in the Surrey countryside. The children love to explore the outdoors in our large garden, 5 acre field, and 2 copses of woodland – a bluebell wood and a 1.5 acre wood. Not only this, but the children also help to take care of our nursery and forest school pets.
The simple answer is that we believe that we are for all parents and children. Come and have a look to see how long it takes you to fall in love with our setting.
We cater for children from 6 months old until they start school at 5 years. We use the outdoors and nature as a medium through which we deliver the OFSTED Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Nestled in the Surrey countryside, in the small village of Outwood, we educate our children to the EYFS using gardening, play, and animals. Learning to count from a book with 5 apples is nowhere near as fun as collecting 5 peas from the garden! Hearing a story from the log circle is far better than from a large room of chairs. If you agree with us, then please do reach out, we will be happy to arrange a viewing for you and your child.
Babies are cared for by our staff who are qualified to the highest levels. A ratio of 3:1 allows us to ensure that all children as much love and attention as possible. Nursery staff are all highly experienced and trained across many disciplines including child care, first aid, and safeguarding.
Children’s progress is monitored closely and updates are held with parents quarterly. This allows for the most solid foundation to their future education. We want you to know not just how much your child loves our nursery (they will show you that!) but how much they are learning with us.

After the age of 2 years we lend more attention to preparing the children for school. Don’t worry though, our preschool system still uses nature and the great outdoors as a method to educate children. Literacy and numeracy allow the children to have strong foundations for their coming schooling.
