Portfield Farm Nursery & Forest School is nestled in the Surrey countryside. You can find us in Outwood; near Redhill, Reigate, and Horley. We believe that a childhood should be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors. Here, we pride ourselves on allowing our children to have learning experiences, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime.
We are a small, family run nursery and forest school that has a firm ethos in allowing children to use their formative years to the max. Parents of children from 6 months to 5 years are able to bring their children to our lovely setting. We play in our field, tend our vegetable patch, and play with our pets and wildlife. Our days are spent both outdoors and in learning from the OFSTED EYFS, learning from our wonderful outdoors, and walking our puppy.
Filmed across a single day, come and see how our children at our nursery and forest school pass their days!
Preschool teaches our children from 2 years – 4 years and 11 months using nature and traditional methods. We believe that the children can learn from both manmade materiel; books, songs, etc., and from nature itself. Our toddlers plant and maintain vegetables in their patch; they help to look after the preschool pets; and enjoy traditional pass-times such as story time.
Activities include:
And many more!
All of the children at our nursery & forest school enjoy everything that the outdoors has to offer from their very first day. By playing outside with each other, the children learn to:
And so much more!
It could not be easier to book a place at our nursery & forest school. Just give us a call on 07427 633238 and book a viewing. We are more than happy to show prospective parents around our little patch of heaven.
When your child first starts, they will have a Settling In Day. Here they will be able to relax into their new setting and enjoy all of what we have to offer.
EXCELLENT Based on 15 reviews Gaia Dart8 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our son has been going here for a year and a half now, having moved from a larger nursery. He has really thrived and become much more confident in outside play and nature generally. Due to the mix of ages, our son originally learnt from the older children and now he likes to help with the younger children which has prepared him for being a big brother. There's a wide variety of outside activities including: petting animals at the neighbouring farm, walks in the wood, races through the field, planting a garden and playing on the swings. Inside, there's plenty of art activities, yoga and the children have recently been learning how to write their names. We high recommend Portfield Farm nursery and will be sending our younger son there in the future. Neil Walmsley8 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our two children have both gone to Portfield farm nursery over the last 3 years and it has been an absolutely fantastic experience for them and us. Highly recommend it! Almost every day they have been outside, playing in the gardens and going for walks in the woods and fields nearby, often getting the chance to meet and pet some of the animals on the neighbouring farms such as lambs, goats, chickens, horses and even a family of peacocks! The only downside is that we often have to wash their splash suits as they get so muddy! The staff have been wonderful and looked after our children so well, who have always been happy and excited to arrive in the morning. Being outside most of the day and having a smaller number of kids also has meant they've not tended to get ill very often and are really happy to play with toys rather than have screen time. It has been a fantastic experience! Alison Ward8 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This nursery is absolutely outstanding. We took our toddler out of a much bigger setting and she has gone from strength to strength. She often asks at the weekend “am I going to nursery today?” and looks really disappointed when we tell her she isn’t! The staff are so caring and attentive and the communication is amazing. My toddler has had so many wonderful experiences, seeing baby lambs and feeding sheep, jumping in muddy puddles, growing her own vegetables, doing yoga, arts and crafts and lots of toys to play with. Couldn’t be happier and my child’s delight when she skips into nursery is testament to the great work of the staff. Highly recommended! Our child loves going in and has had so many great experiences since starting there in September. The staff are always lovely and happy to chat and give feedback at the beginning or the end of the day. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing childcare. Choosing the right nursery for our little one was a tough decision, but as soon as we visited Portfield, it felt perfect. Unlike other large nurseries we considered, Portfield's unique outdoor focus, with activities like feeding sheep, woodland walks, and jumping in muddy puddles, stood out. The staff are fantastic, and it's reassuring to see how settled and happy she is there. Dropping her off each day knowing she's in safe hands brings us peace of mind. She's fully settled now and often doesn't want to leave in the evenings as she's having so much fun. Dean Mendum4 May 2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our daughter has settled really well at Portfield farm, has made positive relationships with staff and other children and loves all the fun they get up to! zoe Hall9 March 2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our daughter loves going to Portfield farm nursery. She has the opportunity to be outside each day and explore nature and local wildlife which she just wouldn’t get in a non forest school environment. The photos we get each day are unique to this environment and they get experiences a lot of children wouldn’t due to the amazing setting and small family like environment. She has learnt to interact and respect/look after and play with children of all nursery ages here which has helped her develop a friendly and nurturing personality. The day staff are all really lovely and Liz runs the day to day operations smoothly and it is easy to contact her when needed.
